I went to a conference on military technology while I was researching my "Kinder, Gentler Military" book (so this would have been the late nineties) and I remember a some important-expert-type literally guffawing at the idea that missiles, rockets, whatevers could be shot down while traveling through the air. Said it was impossible, violates the laws of physics and blah, blah........Survival is a great motivator
